Bad posture affects more than just your back. It can cause other health complications such as heartburn, incontinence, and constipation. As you read this blog, if your back isn’t straight and you’re not sitting comfortably, you may want to know what’s causing your poor posture.

Technology Us

If your desk job keeps you at your seat all day, you may not have the best posture. If you’re constantly on your cellphone, texting or scrolling through social media, that amount of time spent on your devices is impacting your posture.

Think about it. You tilt or bend your neck while using your phone, so your neck muscles flex and cause neck stiffness. Likewise, typing away on a keyboard typically involves leaning forward and hunching over your shoulders. This also causes soreness in your neck, shoulders and back. Your upper body position while you use of these devices affects your posture.

Footwear Choices

Certain types of shoes can alter your posture significantly without you even realizing it.

Wearing flip-flops or flats all of the time seems like a comfortable option, but these shoes don’t provide sufficient support.

Similarly, high heels can cause posture misalignment because you’re more likely to bend your hips and knees to keep your balance. This causes you to push your body weight forward causing imbalance which affect your knee joints, hips, ankles and lower back, consequently affecting your posture.

Whiplash

Whiplash is a form of neck injury caused by a rapid neck movement during a sudden or forceful impact. It typically occurs during a collision or in sports. If you have whiplash, you may experience limited neck mobility, dizziness, stiffness, and tenderness in your upper body.

It can cause tissue damage and lesions in the spine as well as whiplash-associated disorders.

This sudden movement of your neck, shoulders, and arms can affect your posture and the persistent neck and shoulder pain not to mention fatigue caused by whiplash can aggravate already poor posture.
